Water Distribution in a Socio-Technical System: Resilience Assessment for Critical Events Causing Demand Relocation

چکیده

This study presents an exploratory, historically-informed approach to assessing resilience for critical events that cause demand relocation within a water distribution system (WDS). Considering WDS as interdependent socio-technical system, is regarded factor can affect similarly the more commonly analyzed component failures such pipe leaks and pump failures. Critical are modeled during which consumer nodes evacuated perimeter varying in size according typical length scale studied network. The required drops zero area, equivalent relocated three sheltering schemes. Results presented analyzing effect of feasibility schemes, vulnerability particular parts city well suitability network accommodate using suitable metric. results provided by this metric compared with those drawn from common graph-based metrics. conclusions critically discussed under consideration historical knowledge serve basis future research refine assessment systems.

A New Index for Quantitative Assessment of ‎Distribution Network Resilience in the Presence of Distributed ‎Generations

Resilience is defined as the system ability to keep an acceptable performance level against a sever disturbance and to return to a stable condition in a suitable time. Occurrence of inconvenient weather conditions and natural disasters, which are growing in number and severity during the last years, has always led to damages and wide outage throughout the distribution network. Therefore the ass...

A Mixed Blessing: Resilience in the Entrepreneurial Socio-technical System of Bitcoin

Studies of resilience highlight the tension between actions that allow a firm – and a system – to be robust and those that allows it to be flexible. Studies suggest that an entrepreneurial firm will prioritize flexibility, given resource constraints. However, what occurs when a number of firms are embedded in a common socio-technical system and an extreme event affects them collectively? This p...
